Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber reported that two individuals were injured and another arrested in yet another accident involving alcohol. Sheriff Schmerber reports that the incident occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday May, 6 in proximity of El Indio Rd. and Karen Street, at the height of the Rosita Valley sector of the community. Information provided states that the driver of a 2013 black Chevy Silverado pickup impacted a 2008 BlackToyota HIG on its side panel causing severe damages and sending both of its occupants to the hospital. Law enforcement officials have identified the driver of the Chevy Silverado as 22 year old Julio Raul Del Rio, who was detained for driving while intoxicated. The injured individuals were identified as Rosendo and Frances Rosales, both 69 years old. They were both transported to Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center emergency Room for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries which were nonlife threatening. The Toyota is believed to have been a total loss from the amount of damages from the crash.
Jose Luis De La Cruz, 77, of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico passed away March 20, 2018 in Eagle Pass, Texas. A Rosary was recited March 21, 2018 and Funeral services were held in Piedras Negras on March 22, 2018. He was buried at Santo Cristo Cemetery in Piedras Negras.
