CBP Officer Arrested; Accused of Possession of Child Pornography

40 year old David J. Castañeda II, a Customs Agent in the Del Rio Sector and assigned to the EP Port of Entry Border Protection, was arrested under a Homeland Security Investigation on Wednesday April 18, 2018 in Eagle Pass, Texas and remanded to the Del Rio Federal GEO corrections facility under felony charges.

The City of Eagle Pass International Bridge System reported slight increases in traffic on both bridges for May, however pedestrian crossings continue to decrease.

Security along the U.S.-Mexico border could become a $1 billion expense to the state, following a total budget request from the Department of Public Safety for an additional $320 million — on top of a base budget of $750 million — in the new two-year budget.
Increasing bridge traffic continues
The steady increase of traffic on the City of Eagle Pass’ international bridge system as compared to 2015 continues, with all but two classes of traffic increasing.
Cars and pick ups had a 3.10 percent increase in traffic; 2 axle trucks had a 3.27 percent increase; 3 axle trucks had a 24.43 percent increase; 4 axle trucks had a decrease of 14.81 percent; 5 axle trucks had an increase of 4.40 percent; 6 axle trucks had a 150.68 percent; buses had an increase of 17.04 percent; and pedestrian traffic fell 0.94 percent.
Bridge Director Placido Madera said people can expect a bridge traffic hike of approximately 20 percent this tax-free weekend.
In August of 2014 the bridge system averaged 6500 cars, while Friday and Saturday of tax-free weekend there were 8,000 cars.
“It was pretty similar to that 2015 as well: we averaged 5,800 cars, and then that Friday and Saturday we averaged 8,400. About 1,600 more cars and pickups compared to the rest of the month,” said Madera.
Pedestrian traffic was not as consistent, with more than a 30 percent increase from the August 2014 average, and an increase of only about 12 percent from the August 2015 average.

Coches y pick ups tuvieron un aumento de 3,10 por ciento en el tráfico; camiones de 2 ejes tuvieron un aumento de 3.27 por ciento; camiones de 3 ejes tuvieron un aumento de 24.43 por ciento; 4 ejes tuvieron una disminución de 14.81 por ciento; 5 ejes tuvieron un incremento del 4.40 por ciento; camiones de 6 ejes tenían un 150.68 por ciento; autobuses tuvieron un aumento de 17.04 por ciento; y el tráfico peatonal cayó un 0.94 por ciento.
Director del puente Plácido Madera dijo que la gente puede esperar un aumento de tráfico del puente de aproximadamente 20 por ciento este fin de semana por las ventas libre de impuestos.
En agosto de 2014, el sistema de puente promedio en coches fue de 6,500, mientras que el viernes y sábado del fin de semana libre de impuestos fueron 8,000 coches.
"Fue bastante similar a la del 2015, hicimos un promedio de 5,800 coches, y en el viernes y sábado de las ventas se tuvo un promedio de 8,400. 1,600 más coches y camionetas en comparación con el resto del mes", dijo Madera.
El tráfico peatonal no fue tan consistente, con un aumento de más del 30 por ciento del 2014 hasta agosto, y un aumento de sólo el 12 por ciento hasta agosto del 2015.
