City joins Maverick County in lawsuit against 24 pharmaceutical companies

The City of Eagle Pass has joined Maverick County in suing 24 manufacturers and distributors of opioids for the damages that certain prescribed medications have caused, and continue causing, millions of people across the nation.

Property tax collection begins for 2017-2018

October 1 marks the beginning of the new fiscal year for all government agencies in Maverick County, and with it begins the collection of property taxes for Maverick County, City of Eagle Pass, Eagle Pass Independent School District, and the Maverick County Hospital District.
The county government has set their tax rate at $0.52 per every $100 valuation, the city is taxing at $0.54 per every $100 valuation, the EPISD is taxing at $1.18 per every $100 valuation, and the hospital district has increased to $0.12 per every $100 valuation.
In total the combined tax that a property owner will pay is $2.40 per ever $100 valuation or $2,360 on a $100,000 home. A homeowner outside the city limits however does not have to pay the city taxes, so their tax base would be at approximately $1,820 on a $100,000 home.
Taxpayers have until January to pay without surcharges. During the month of February a surcharge of 7 percent is applied.

Police department to hire new officers

The Eagle Pass City Council held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 5, in which they discussed and took action to approve the adoption of the 2017-2018 fiscal year budget and established procedures for formal approval by September 19, 2017.
