United States Border Patrol agents confirmed the presence of at least three crocodiles/alligators whose habitat is the Rio Grande River in Maverick County.

Agents state that the reptiles have been spotted on several occasions but mostly upstream in sparsely populated areas.

One of the agents who confirmed the reptilian presence is agent Jose Diaz who stated that he has personally seen them in the Rio Grande River going back to 2013.

Interestingly, the alligator population in Texas has thrived along, semi-arid areas like Maverick County, where it wouldn’t be expected since their habitat is mostly coastal marshes and swamps in the Texas Southeast.

According to the Houston Chronicle back in 2011, there were approximately 30 alligators captured along a ranch in Maverick County by the Rio Grande River.
