Del Rio Border Sector at a 222% increase in apprehensions during 2019

During the fiscal year the Del Rio Sector Border Patrol has reported that there have been 32,624 overall undocumented immigrant apprehensions in 2019, a 222% increase as compared to the previous year. 

During this time period, U.S. Border Patrol in the Del Rio Sector -which includes Maverick County - have seen a 164% increase in the number of Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) apprehended through the sector.

Up to now, there have been 2,106 (UAC’s) apprehended as compared to the same time period in 2018, which had 862. This averages to 9 unaccompanied alien children being apprehended per day from October to May through the Del Rio Border Sector.

Family Units which traditionally consists of parents and children have skyrocketed and increased substantially.

During the 2019 fiscal year, the Del Rio Sector has reported that 17,112 Family Units have been apprehended. This is a 1,034% increase as compared to the same time period in 2018 which had 1,509 Family Units apprehended.

Single Adult Apprehensions have also increased during this time. During 2019 there have been 13,233 detained as compared to the same time in 2018, which had 7,766 detained, a 70% increase from one year to the next.

In total there has been 32,624 people apprehended along the Del Rio Border Sector during 2019. This is an increase of 222% as compared to the same time period in 2018 which had 10,137 individuals apprehended.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Patrolling Agent for the Del Rio Border Sector Raul Ortiz states that the increase certainly puts all those involved in a predicament and overwhelms the system.
