for the actors in Director Adolfo Flores’ latest entry in the 2019 UIL One-Act-Play Contest.
The play won first play in this year’s Zone A competition held at Southside High School. Analaura De La Garza won the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Rhoda and Victor Solis won Best Actor honors for his portrayal of Leroy. Amanda Lee Martin was named to the All-Star Cast for her part as Cristina and Jesus Chavarria was named Honorable Mention All-Star Cast for his portrayal of the character of Bravo. “Bad Seed” is set in the 1950’s and is the story of a girl who pretends to be a sweet innocent girl who has an evil side to her personality, who will stop at nothing to get what she wants, including murder.
A series of special effects have been incorporated into the production in order to enhance certain scenes such as the murder of Leroy in the play, one of the high points of the One-Act Play this year. Effects and performances which need to be seen to be appreciated.
“Bad Seed” will be advancing to Bi-District Competition on March 28th at Highlands High School in San Antonio, along with Southwest High School’s production of “Ruby’s Story” and Northside Harlan High School’s production of “The Mad Women of Chaillot.”
“They (his cast)’re doing a great job of working on the delivery of the play for the better part of the last three months,” said Flores, “I’m very proud of them. They really like the playing and are working harder on making the play better as we try to advance to Area.”
