Elements from Grupo BETA convinced an undocumented female adult migrant to be

rescued - along with a minor child - from the middle of the Rio Grande River on

Thursday, February 14, 2019.

The incident occurred at around 3 p.m when the migrant female went into the Rio

Grande River in hopes of either crossing or being picked up by the United States Border

Patrol.

The female and child, however, were stuck in a rock formation that is on the Mexican

boundary in the Rio Grande River.

Therefore, personnel from the National Institute of Migration (Grupo BETA) initiated the

rescue.

The incident lasted more than an hour, as the officials attempted to convince the female

to be rescued and taken back onto Mexican soil.

The female refused, and stated she wanted to be picked up and detained by the U.S.

Border Patrol.

The group was finally able to convince the female to get in the rescue craft with them

and was then transported back into Mexico.

These type of incidents continue occurring on a daily

basis. Ironically the spike in migrant rescues in our community coincides with the

arrival of over 1,800 undocumented migrants from Central America into Piedras

Negrs, Coahuila.
