The purge - that could take place before the year ends - is a result of a supposed investigation by government officials that alleges that over 95,000 people are registered in Texas illegally.
Locally, Maverick County Elections Administrator Roy Schmerber has stated that his office has been contacted over the issue.
Schmerber did state that the notification they received did not mention that it was being looked at because of people who voted illegally, butut rather a review of voters who might have been registered to vote while they were not qualified. “We will then send out notifications to those individuals so they can clarify their citizenship status and keep them on the voter roll or eliminate them.”
The Maverick County Elections Office has not received notification from the state as to when this review will be taking place, nor a number of how many voters have been flagged to looked at.
Recently, the State began pulling back and informed counties that some of the 95,000 voters flagged for citizenship review do not belong on the list.
Harris County had over 29,822 voters who were initially flagged as unqualified voters.
