“It doesn’t take a genius to know guns don’t belong on college classrooms,” the video says. The ad was released in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston, along with multiple social media platforms. A bill recently passed the Texas State Senate which allows people with concealed handgun licenses to carry weapons on campus. The bill still has to be approved in the House before becoming law. Everytown for Gun Safety tells KXAN they plan to spend a little more than $80,000 to spread the message about the bill. While the video cites a USA News Poll Survey stating 72 percent of Texans don’t think college students should be allowed to bring concealed handguns to class, many universities have mixed feelings. The student government at the University of Texas opposes campus carry while other campuses such as Texas State University and Texas A&M University voted to support it.
