“This would-be-smuggler allegedly attempted to bring five packages of methamphetamine into the country hidden in the floorboard of the vehicle he was driving. I congratulate our officers for their commitment to keeping these dangerous drugs out of the country,” said David Moreno, CBP acting Port Director, Brownsville. 

On Sunday, May 25, 2014 CBP officers working at the primary inspection booth at Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge came in contact with a 21-year-old man as he attempted to enter the country. A CBP officer’s primary examination resulted in the man, identified as a citizen of Mexico who resides in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico being referred to CBP secondary for further examination. While in secondary, CBP officers discovered five packages hidden within the vehicle. CBP officers removed the packages which held a combined total weight of 12.7 pounds of alleged methamphetamine.

The alleged load of methamphetamine from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $466,400. CBP officers turned the man over to U.S. Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle in this enforcement action.
