Beginning at 204 W. San Antonio Ave., the Art Waddle will wind through the Boerne neighborhood commonly known as "The Flats" along Cibolo Creek. Artwork including paintings, illustrations, jewelry, pottery, sculpture and more will be on display in the yards of eight private residences, which will be open during the event, and the artists will be on hand to talk with visitors.
Admission to the Art Waddle is free. Artwork will be for sale, and artist fees and visitor donations will help support scholarships to Summer Art Camp at the non-profit Cibolo Nature Center & Farm.
Event organizer Mary Morton, a painter and photographer, said she came up with the idea of an art event in multiple nearby venues after enjoying neighborhood art walks in San Antonio with her husband, Michael Morton. They decided they would like to do something similar in their own neighborhood.
“So last year, we asked some of our neighbors to host artists in their yards, and it was a great neighbor-and-town bonding,” she said. “The artists enjoyed the easy atmosphere and sold art, as well. This will be our second year for the Art Waddle. By the way, we call it a ‘waddle’ because of all the ducks and geese that walk around and swim in the Cibolo Creek.”
She added that she hopes visitors will take the opportunity to bring picnics and even bicycles to pedal along the route and enjoy the art and the neighborhood. “It’s easy walking and friendly neighbors,” she said.
In addition to the Morton home, where the Art Waddle begins, neighbors who will host artwork in their yards include Maxine Bordelon, 309 W. San Antonio Ave.; Nancy and Jon Nystrom, 518 Irons Street; Deby and Chet Hawkins, 418 Irons Street; Eunice Hundley, 512 O’Grady Street; Jenny and Konrad Gillespie, 309 S. Brackenridge Street; Nancy and Don White, 401 S. Brackenridge Street; and Jody and Tracy Daniel, 208 Yoalana Street.
Supporters of the Second Annual Art Waddle include the Greater Boerne Area Chamber of Commerce, Critical Path Strategies and Kristy Watson Graphic Design.
