Eagle Pass High School Cross Country Coach Juan Gonzalez informed The News Gram of the fact that his charges will be attending the Gonzalez Apache Cross Country Relay which is an interesting concept where three-man teams run two X-Country miles each to determine a winner.

As you can see from the picture, EP High has an enormous team of dedicated young runners who religiously attack their training regimen on a daily basis as they could be seen trickling in last Tuesday.

The Cross Over or Fall Over Drug-Free Lock-in Basketball Tournament was held over the weekend and was a complete success as over one hundred boys and young men laced 'em up and let 'em fly as the level of competition between all of the participants was very impressive.

Spurs Chaplain Rich Garza was also on hand to deliver a rousing speech on the importance of knowing who you hang around with, be aware of what you put in your body, knowing the dangers of drugs, ALL drugs including alcohol which he reiterated was also a drug, "It doesn't get you high," he said, "It brings you down and slows your senses and reaction time and don't let anybody tell you different."

Cada vez que alguien dice 'Tiras como una niña' se supone que debe ser un insulto, pero este año Mo'Ne Davis le está dando a esa frase un nuevo significado. Ella también ha hecho historia al convertirse en la primer jugadora de las ligas pequeñas en aparecer en la portada de Sports Illustrated. Los locutores de La Rancherita del Aire y miembros de los medios de comunicación en un juego amistoso en contra de los Enforcers el equipo de softbol del Departamento de Policia de Eagle Pass.  Los Enforcers ganaron el partido 18-1 en un divertido juego donde asistieron muchos aficionados al Rey de los Deportes que se llevo acabo en el Rodger's Field.

The Junior Softball All-Stars from Eagle Pass Little League fell for the second straight day at the Junior Softball World Series in Kirkland, Wash., losing 11-2 to the East Region champions from West Point Little League in Pennsylvania.

The Junior Softball All-Stars from Eagle Pass Little League fell for the second straight day at the Junior Softball World Series in Kirkland, Wash., losing 11-2 to the East Region champions from West Point Little League in Pennsylvania. 
 
Seven fielding errors cost the Southwest squad from Texas dearly, and a pair of miscues in a four-run fourth inning sealed the fate of coach Willie Ruiz's squad. 
 
"Errors are going to kill you in the World Series," he said "You have to play as close to perfect as you can when you're playing against the best in the world."

The Eagle Pass 14-U Junior Little League All Stars dropped teir first contest to Mexicali, Mexico by a score of 10-2.  Heather Ruiz was 3 for 3 with a home run and Janessa Garza doubled, but Michelle Roldan was too much in the victory and Elizabeth Nunez went 2 for 4, Nicol Moran was 2 for 3 and Kimberly Torres hit 2 for 2 for the crimson and green.

In other results Milan, Italy opened up the tournament with a 5-1 win over Mexicali on Sunday morning as Gloria D'Autono had 4K's in the win.  Milan's Irene Costa had a double in that game.  Mexico's Adriana Molina hit a triple.

Jeffersonville, Indiana edged Canada 7-6 behind jennah Tincher's 4 strikeout performance.  Teammates Jennifer Peffley went 2 for 3 with a triple, Casey Schweitzer hit 2 for 4 and Faith Denig went an impressive 3 for 4.

Tijanne Ross was 2 for 3 with a double and a triple and Emma Glawson was 2 for 2 for Canada.

Fort Meyers defeated Iloilo, Philipines 4-3 behind Nicole Rdriguez' 8 strikeouts.  Rodriguez aided her cause with a double, Sammy Massaro went 2 for 3, Daniella Iantosca was 2 for 3 with a double and Jordyn Dolly also had a triple for the Floridians.
