Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya says that he and his team are counting down the days until Canelo Alvarez meets Erislandy Lara on Showtime pay-per-view this Saturday, and everyone is enthusiastic about early reports from cable companies, as well as the live gate sales.
"Everybody's really excited. Just to point out to you, the event is almost sold out, a complete sell out," De La Hoya said on a conference call with media.

The Texas Sportswriters Association put out their annual list of the best baseball and softball players in the state this past weekend and three of our own were included.
Yet another honor has been bestowed on arguably the best softball player in the history of Eagle Pass as Lady Eagle Sandra Selina Mendoza received Honorable Mention by the TXSWA.Mendoza amassed an incredible 52 stolen bases this season and was in the Top 12 in the State in runs scored with 42.

Prized free agent Carmelo Anthony visited the Houston Rockets on Wednesday and was greeted with images of him in two different uniforms of the franchise.
A day after visiting the Bulls, the New York Knicks' star continued his tour in Houston. A video board outside the Toyota Center depicted one image of Anthony in Houston's white uniform with red lettering and another in a retro red and yellow uniform. Between the pictures was Anthony's logo with the word 'Melo' in it.
