The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles defeated Edinburgh North 6-0 and 3-0 to advance to the third round of the 2015 State Playoffs behind some outstanding defense, clutch hitting and the stellar pitching of Crystal De La Cruz.
"Overall it was a great defensive battle," said Coach Coca Ruiz, "Our pitching was key as Crystal had an awesome performance allowing only two hits over the course of two games and for a good hitting team, we always say 'Good pitching always stops good hitting.'"
Ruiz added that Melanie Mendoza came through with a 3 for 4 performance at the plate in Game 2, while Dariela Velasquez was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's and one run scored,"Overall our key players stepped it up and our younger players are taking it all in."  Sairah Gonzalez was also 2 for 4 with a run in Game 1.
He expects the same type of defensive battle from this Edinburgh team who is coming into this series with an overall record of 23-6, 10-2 in district play averaging 6.7 runs and 8.9 hits per game hitting .335 with a .423 on base percentage.
The Eagles are coming into the series at 23-9, 10-0 in district play averaging 6.3 runs and 9.5 hits per game hitting .349 with a .443 on base percentage.
If the numbers don't lie, we should be in for a dandy of a series which will be played Friday and Saturday, weather permitting in San Antonio at the Northeast ISD  Softball Complex.

The CC Winn Mavericks won their first game against the Victoria East Titans 3-0 behind the clutch pitching of Jesus Fraga and some timely hitting off the bat of Erick Perez who belted a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to aid Fraga's cause and put the Mavericks ahead one game to none in the two out of three game series with the representative from a very strong District 30-AAAAA which left perennial power house Corpus Christi Moody on the outside looking in to these playoffs.
Perez opened the scoring with his moonshot over the left center field fence at Southwest High School followed by an infield hit by Ferny Vielma who came in to score on a hit by Mav catcher Brandon Sanchez.
Then Isaac Banda hit safely in the bottom of the sixth and came in to score on back-to-back hits by Rica Gonzalez and Perez.
Fraga sealed the deal with a three hit, three K, no walk effort only allowing one runner past second base in the form of Titan standout Jonathan Ortega who was left on third after Fraga got Derek Folmar swinging in the top of the first.
The Titan bats showed up on Saturday and the Mavs' stayed on the bus as Victoria East cruised to two ten-run rule games 10- and 12-0 to move on.

Eagle Ace Tony Galvan held the La Joya Coyotes to one earned run over five innings, but the Coyotes would not be denied as a two to one crowd of loyal supporters and the 10th man of the fans of the Eagle Pass Eagles hung around until the 11th when Carlos Barrera, who along with DeeAndre Torres were the offensive spark plugs in a game not for the faint of heart as the Eagles move on to square off with the Edinburgh Bobcats this weekend.
The Eagles were up 6-3 when reliever Julian Castañeda ran into control problems in the sixth loading up the bases and the Coyotes would tie sending the game into extra innings where Castañeda would eventually be the hero knocking in the winning run on the spikes of Carlos Barrera in order to seal the deal.
Barrera was 5 for 6 and Torres 2 for 3 with a triple, three RBI's and one run scored. Isaac Ramirez pitched five tough innings to get the "W".
