Then on Saturday, the Lady Eagles took care of business once again in front of their home crowd 10-1.
On Friday, Brooke Diaz reached on a walk and stole second, third and home to plate the first run for Eagle Pass.
She got on with a hit in the third then stole second and home again to score the second Eagle run. Alex Martinez singled and scored after reaching on a bunt single.
In the fourth, Leslie Martinez reached on a fielder’s choice, followed by a run-producing triple by Diaz, then Alex Martinez cleared the bases with a home run to dead center field.
Diaz followed suit with a home run of her own in the top of the fifth, followed by another solo-shot by Kaylynne Ruiz to right center.
Lashay Reyes singled, as did Paola Daniel, then Katie Galvan aided her own cause with a run-producing double to center.
That would be all the Lady Eagles would need to take a lead in this series. On Saturday, Leslie Martinez singled and scored in the first on a double by Alex Martinez.
Then in the third, Martinez bunted on, then Brooke Diaz homered in two runs.
Alex Martinez doubled, Lashey Reyes singled as did Alyssa Lara bringing in Martinez.
Then Cristabel Martinez singled in Reyes to make the score 6-1 Eagles. Leslie Martinez reached on an error, stole second and third and scored on a SAC fly by Diaz. Then Alex Martinez homers to left and the Eagles have a commanding 8-1 lead. Alyssa Lara would homer to left, then Paola Daniel would double and Diaz would bring her in for the tenth Lady Eagle run. The Coyotes would score three in the seventh, but it was a little too little, a little too late and the Lady Eagles would advance in two games.
The Lady Eagles play Harlingen South on May 3rd and 4th in Sinton, Texas for the Area title at 7:00 PM on Friday and at 3:00 PM on Saturday with a third game - if necessary - thirty minutes following Game 2.
