to participate in the District29-AAAAAA Track and Field Championships last week. Coach Juan Gonzalez informed The News Gram that several of his charges are advancing to the Region IV Track Meet to be held in Laredo on April 21st.
Among the qualifiers are Jenna Roiz and Karina Fernandez, who placed 1st and 2nd in the 400 Meters with 1:00.41 and 1:00.95 times respectively. LSU commit Shanya Luna will also be advancing after winning the 800 Meters with a time of 2:22.20. Luna also qualified in the grueling 3200 Meters with a time of 12:00.34. Yale Garza placed fifth, but due to a scratch, she too will be advancing to regionals with a time of 12:17.56.
The team of Erika Lopez, Karina Fernandez, Briana Vasquez and Jenna Roiz qualified with a 4:08.05 in the 1600 Meter Relay, placing 3rd. Sarah Guevara is your district champion in the Discus Throw with a toss of 121’ 11”. Natalie Gallardo placed 5th with a 100’ 11”. Natalie Flores placed 5th in the ShotPut with a 34’ 3” and Alexia Diaz was 6th with a 34’ 2.5”. The team of Alitzel Flores, Hanna Ibarra, Briana Vasquez and Jenna Roiz placed 6th in the 400 Meter Relay with a time of 53.35 and the team of Erika Lopez, Hanna Ibarra, Brianna Velasquez and Kiana Esquivel placed 6th in the 800 Meter Relay with a time of 1:53.28.
Del Rio won the meet with 175.5 points, Alexander was second with 152, United was third with 100, Eagle Pass was fourth with 73, Nixon was fifth with 64, United South sixth with 45.5 and LBJ was seventh with 10 points.
