A.D. Ibarra -SAC

A big seventh inning aided the visiting Uvalde Coyotes

in taking their District 28-AAAAA softball game against the home standing CC Winn Mavericks last Friday at the Student Activity Center. Ariana Soto kept the Coyote bats at bay the entire game, but a hit batsman started the rally that would do the Mavericks in with a two run lead when Soto hit Megan Flores, struck out right fielder Ashtyn Leigh, Natalie Ramirez got on on an error as did Kamryn Arredondo. A ground ball to the right side scored a run and it seemed as though Soto would get out of the inning, but two more errors led to the the ancient baseball parable in Spanish that says, ‘Despues del error viene la linea’ as Anahi Ramirez put the dagger into the Mav fans’ collective hearts with a three run home run to right-center field that did the Lady Mavericks in on this night.

Then on Tuesday, the Lady Mavs traveled to Castroville to tangle with the Medina Valley Panthers. It was Ariana Soto against Ashley DeCock in this one and DeCock pitched a gem, mowing down the Mavs one-two-three in the

first three frames, then in the fourth Ariana Soto got some redemption aiding her own cause with a solo shot, a bomb that is still in orbit over the left field fence, but the Panthers scored one unearned run in the first, four in the third, one in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 7-1 victory.

The Lady Mavericks played SW Legacy on Friday, but results were not available at press time.
