Eagle Tennis Advances to Regionals

The Eagle Pass High School boys and girls tennis teams competed in the District 29 6A Tennis 

Tournament held in Eagle Pass on April 5 and 6. The boys and girls teams finished second and advanced six players to Regionals. In Boys Doubles, RJ Aguirre and Luis Fernandez won the Boys Doubles District championship by defeating Castillo and Valero from United South 6-3, 7-5. This was their first district championship, but second time advancing to regionals.

The Girls Doubles team of Paola Gutierrez and Paola Chavarria won the Girls Doubles championship by defeating Houben and Alonso from Laredo Alexander 6-3, 7-6. Both young ladies are going to regionals for the second year in a row.

The Mixed Doubles team of Jacob Wright and Maryam Sharafeldin won the Mixed Doubles championship by defeating Garza and Treviño from Laredo Alexander by the score 6-2, 6-2. This is Wright's second trip to regionals and Sharafeldin's first as a freshman. The Boys Doubles team of Jose Fernandez and Victor Romero placed third in the District Tournament.

The Girls Doubles team of Maya Martinez and Camila Treviño placed fourth in the District Tournament. Daniel Gutierrez and Sebastian Guerra placed 7th and 8th respectively in boys singles, and Ana Resma placed 6th in girls singles while Angie Perales placed 8th.

The players will be advancing to regionals in San Antonio on April 16-18.
