Matthew Schuler shot 72 and 72 and had a Day 1 lead going into the stretch at The Max in Laredo to come one shot short of a District29- AAAAAA Golf Championship last weekend in The Gateway City, but he and his Eagle Pass Eagles qualified for the Region IV Golf Tournament.
Schuler, who was named First Team All-District, had five Birdies on each day shooting 35 on the Front 9 and 37 on The Back on consecutive days to come one short of Alexander’s Harold Devally, who had a Day 1 73
and a Day 2 70 to take the Championship.
Teammate Liam Marcos was named Second Team All- District and shot 83 on both days for the Eagles, who qualified for the Region IV Tournament as a team.
The team of Schuler, Marcos, Sebastian Gomez (83,88), Gustavo Castaño (84,90) and Jorge Gutierrez (85,83) will move on to The Republic Golf Club in San Antonio on April 24th and 25th for regionals. Coach Jaime Flores had the following to say about his team’s performance, “Although we came up shy of a district title, we are beyond proud of these boys and what they have been able to achieve in such a short time. Now on to Regionals!! Go Eagles!!”
