by a score of 5-2 behind a strong defensive performance, along with a great pitching performance by Katy Galvan.
“We played solid defense and executed when we needed to,” said Coach Coca Ruiz, “Our pitching was spot on and when you have that, this will get us where we need to go.”
The game was tight throughout. Galvan got three innings without a base runner including four strikeouts. It was in the bottom of the third inning that Alyssa Lara got on with a double, was moved over to third with a sacrifice bunt by Cristabel Martinez and came in to score on an error. Galvan kept mowing them down in the fourth, fifth and sixth with two more strikeouts, and her offense responded in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings when Cristabel
Martinez was hit by a pitch. Katie Galvan got on on an infield hit and the offensive player of the game Leslie Martinez ripped a double to plate both runs.
Then in the bottom of the sixth, Alex Martinez gets on on an error, followed by a hit by Lorelei Morales, scoring one. Kaylynne Ruiz gets hit by a pitch and Lashey Reyes bunts the runners over. With the bases loaded, Martinez was hit by a pitch scoring another and the Eagles were up by five.
Gisselle Valdez and Alyssa Gonzalez homered back-to-back for the Queens, but it was a little too little, a little too late for Del Rio and the Lady Eagles came away with a 5-2 victory. The Lady Eagles host Laredo United here on Tuesday.
