to The Queen City to tangle
with the Del Rio Queens on
Tuesday. Head Coach Hugo
Garcia informed The News
Gram that even though they
had a few corner kicks and
some breakthroughs, they
were not able to overcome the
barrage by the Queens.
“The game started
well as we played a different
formation, a more defensive
4-2-3-1, but our offense was
not a factor - Del Rio had
many golden chances but
missed. The back line of our
goalkeeper: Yoanna
Velasquez, Mariana Perez,
Lucia Lechler, Sam
Cruz, Karen Zamarripa and
Alana Ojeda did a good job of
putting pressure on Del Rio’s
offense. With 6 minutes left
they scored a goal to make it
0-1 and then 30 seconds later
they got their second goal off
a bad ref call (penalty kick) to
put them up 0-2 at half time,”
said Garcia.
“In the 2nd half we
kept same formation, but we
weren’t creating any opportunities
offensively, and they
knocked in 2 quick goals
(since we had no counter
attack).”
“Del Rio brought
more girls forward,” he concluded,
“I switched to a more
traditional 4-4-2 and we started
having some attacks at
their goal.”
“Our injuries are
mounting and we were physically
overmatched.” The
Lady Eagles withstood a 0-5
defeat at the hands of the
Queens.
