Perry’s 3-Run Double Lifts Eagles Over Mavericks 4-3

Brandon Villaseñor was pitching an absolute gem on Monday, mowing

down Eagles one after another and getting out of at least two major jams; and

leaving the Burnt Orange and White with bases loaded while using an impeccable

curveball to freeze Eagle hitters and causing them to whiff at third strikes - striking

out ten and taking a 3-1 lead into the sixth.

But it was then that he reached his 125 pitch limit, and after giving up a

base on balls to Jacob Ruiz and a hit to Sergio Lopez, Jorge Robledo would come

in and try to put out the fire with a 2-0 count to Pinch Hitter David Lopez.

Robledo walked Lopez, then Outfielder Victor Perry would proceed

to hit an 0-2 curveball to the farthest reaches of left field to plate all three runs and

give the Eagles a 4-3 victory.

Rey Rey Mendoza was on the hump for the Eagles and he managed to

come out unscathed in the first inning. Then he led off the bottom of the first with a

base hit and came in to score the first run of the game on a hit by CJ Jimenez.

But the Mavs would answer right back with Francisco Ballones getting

on - on an error by the third baseman - then scoring on a hit by Javier Rivas to tie up

the score.

The game remained 1-1 until the fifth, when Miguel Solis singled and

Jacob Salinas reached on an error, but both would score on passed balls putting the

Mavericks up 3-1. It was in the bottom of the sixth that the Eagles would get the win on

Perry’s double to seal the deal.

Both teams travel to the Gateway City to compete in the Border Olympics this weekend.
