to Coach Hugo Garcia, they started fast.
“We started fast as Mariester Medrano and Nayeli
Rocha had LBJ on their heels. Our midfielder Alanna Ojeda did a
good job of defending and winning balls, passing them out to our
wings - Mia Gonzalez and Atzimba Vargas,” said Garcia,
“We earned a couple of direct shots and corner kicks, but were
not able to convert.”
Midway through the first half, Rocha went down with an
injury and the Lady Eagle offense stalled, but their defense - led by
Goalie Yoanna Velasquez and Esmeralda Martinez - kept the
score at 0-0.
“In the second half, we pushed the ball to their side but
they hit a long ball into our end and turned it over deep, converting
it into their first goal. Then they got a controversial call deep in our
zone and made a direct kick to make it 2-0, they also got a phantom
penalty kick to make it 3-0.
Our team had many opportunities to put a crooked number on the
scoreboard but we just couldn’t finish.
