against the Laredo United Lady Longhorns and although they started
well, rebounds in front of the Eagle Pass net ended up in the back of the net as the
visitors proceeded to come away with a 5-Nil victory.
“We started off the game well,” said Head Coach Hugo Garcia, “We had
a deep run by Nayeli Rocha but she got fouled deep in Longhorn territory.
Maritza Gonzalez too the direct kick and just missed the goal.”
He added that Rocha was a menace to United’s back four and was not
afraid to get physical with them. “They couldn’t handle her and
she made them pay with force.” United notched two goals before
the half to make the halftime score 2-0. “We played with passion and
grit but United’s experience and technical ability allowed them to notch their
third goal midway through the second half.” Our goalkeeper Yoanna Velasquez
stopped a boatload of shots, but they managed to score twice more.”
The Lady Eagles traveled to The Gateway City to do battle with LBJ on
Saturday, but results were not available at press time.
