Ari Ruiz arose to the challenge on Friday against the Orange & Black, dropping 16 points in what was a relatively close matchup at the onset, but which got out of hand late as the Lady Panthers handed the Lady Mavericks a 65-39 loss.
Senior Nelly Cedillo had a formidable 11 point performance, Jennifer Rodriguez scored 6, Anali Parra, Amanda Maldonado and Casarez each had a bucket in the loss.
Then the Mavs ran into the host Boerne Greyhounds who, according to sources, were the beneficiaries of some one-sided officiating and the dogs cruised to an 81-25 win. Ruiz had a formidable 10 point performance in this, the second game of the tournament.
The Lady Mavericks squared off with the other Boerne squad, the Boerne Champion Chargers and the result of this game was much the same as the nightcap on Thursday as the Chargers came away with an 80-19 victory.
In the final game against Hondo, Ruiz had a season-high 32 points in a 78-42 loss as the Lady Mavericks return to Eagle Pass to prepare to face LBJ here at the EPISD Sports Complex Gymnasium at 7:30 on Friday night.
