His Panthers were down 17-11 with a little over a minute remaining in the game last week against United and he said his kids never gave up and never stopped fighting.
“We kept on fighting until the very end. We scored with :33 left in the game to put us up by one to win 18-17.”
They did so on a three yard pass from senior QB Ismael Contreras to junior RB Sergio Vela.
“They scored with a little over a minute left,” added Coach Salinas, “You defense had a stop and forced them to kick a field goal.
Another key player on the ensuing drive was senior Wide Receiver Marcos Espinoza who had a big catch at the end of the game to keep the chains moving.
Salinas also commended the big play of his offensive linemen returning All-State Honorable Mention OL Josue Huerta, “ He had four pancakes. He’s not the biggest guy in the world (5’7” 185 Lbs.) but he gets after it.”
Another returning starter for the Panthers is senior 6’1” 285 Lb. LT Angel Perez who Salinas says is very aggressive.
On the defensive side of the ball he had the following to add, “Our whole defense did a good job.”
On this side of the ball Outside Backer Romeo Rodriguez (5’9” 170 Lbs.) had two sacks and 10 tackles last week. Inside Backers Allan Martinez (Sr. 5’10” 205 Lbs.) and Cesar Contreras (Jr. 6’)’ 200 Lbs.) are flanked by senior Defensive End Kevin Yañez (5’11” 205 Lbs.) who according to his coach, “Had some big hits on the QB.”
Coach Salinas closed by saying, “It’s going to be an exciting game, we’re looking forward to it. The Eagles are doing well, they have a great team and lots of confidence right now. We’re going to have to play hard, limit our mistakes and execute.”
