The CC Winn Mavericks traveled to Sharyland, due to the imminent construction of the new stadium in Mission, to face off with a spirited Mission Eagle team ready to bounce back from their 19 to 14 loss to rival Mission Veterans the week before.

The Eagles scored on a seven yard run by big running back Steven De Leon in the first quarter putting the Eagles up 7 to 0.

The Eagle offense pounded the ball down the field in the second quarter behind a strong offensive line, and De Leon found his way into the end zone again to make it 14 to 0 Mission at the break.

Eric Villaseñor and the Maverick coaching staff made some adjustments at halftime, and the Mavericks defense started playing well behind Linebacker Ernesto Villarreal, Defensive Tackle Alexis Morales and Defensive End Ricky Morales before Ethan Johnston connected with Tight End Isaac Villarreal on a 10 yard strike to pull within seven in the third quarter.

"We started showing up offensively in the second half," said Coach Villaseñor. "Our defense just gave up a big run."

The run in question was a 52 yard run by De Leon to pull away from the Mavs in the third quarter, making the score 21 to 7 late.

QB Ethan Johnston answered back with a 13 yard run of his own to get within a score, but the Eagle defense dug in, and the offense ate crucial time off the clock to seal the deal.

Wide Receiver Luis Olvera had an outstanding game for the Mavericks, with five receptions for 107 yards. Wide Receiver Justice Ruiz had two big catches for Winn as well.

"We grew up as a team this evening," concluded Coach Villaseñor. "We've just got to learn how to finish games."
