The Silver & Black had trouble with the visiting Knights who gave them all they could handle, even taking the third set. Winn won the first two 25 to 17 and 25 to 22. St. Augustine came storming back 22 to 25 in the third, but the Mavericks took the fourth and final set by the minimum difference 25 to 23 to come away with the victory.
Junior defender Jazmin Fuentes was busy all night long, flying all over the court with an amazing 44 digs in the win, while junior setter Annette Fuentes contributed with 19 assists and eight digs.
Senior setter Yajaira Ortega had 14 assists and nine digs, and senior outside hitter Marty Martinez had two assists, three digs, nine kills and a block for a solid overall performance, along with senior middle blocker Kimberly Rodriguez who contributed an assist, five digs, four kills a block and an ace.
Senior right side hitter Alexa Ibarra had three assists, a dig and two kills for the Lady Mavs in the win. Junior defender Angela Suke and senior outside hitter Joanna Pena had 11 digs and a kill and one assist, three digs and six kills respectively. Junior defender Jasmine Ballones had 14 digs, one kill, and an ace.
"We are ready for district play," said Coach Benavides.
The Lady Mavericks began their district schedule versus Floresville on Friday, but results were not available at presstime.
