This week’s Players of the Week features C.C. Winn Football Coach Eric Villaseñor’s and  EPHS Football Coach Tom Gonzalez’s nominations for their respective standouts, Maverick slot receiver Jared Roiz and Eagle lineman Sebastian Hernandez.

First up is C.C. Winn's Jared Roiz:

Who do you consider to be your biggest influences? My family is my biggest influence, but most of all my parents for putting as much time and dedication in my sports career for as long as I can remember.

What are your goals this season? My goals this season are to win a district title and have a good run in the playoffs, and not just that, but to make my sophomore year a memorable one with my brothers.

Who's your favorite NFL team?My favorite NFL team is the Seattle Seahawks, but they lost the Super Bowl to the Patriots in 2015.

College team? My favorite college team is the Texas Longhorns where I hope I can one day attend.

What's your favorite play and why? My favorite play is Rhino Bongo because I like rolling out for a pass to get the ball in my hands and make something happen.

What are your plans after graduation? I plan to further my sports career in college.

Major? Geosciences, so I can one day be a geologist.

What does it feel like to come out of the tunnel? What do you feel when you hear the fight song? I've only come out of the tunnel a few times, but of the times I’ve come out of the tunnel, I feel the same adrenaline rush. Whenever I hear the fight song play, I feel a sense of pride and unity.

Finally, give me some advice to a seventh grader playing football for the first time. Some advice I would give to a seventh grader playing football for the first time would be to trust the process and find your confidence, because with confidence anything is possible.

Next up is Eagle defensive lineman Sebastian Hernandez:

Who do you consider to be your biggest influences? My Grandpa Reymundo Lopez and my mom Lydia Lopez. He's always taught me new stuff and my mom has always been there for every decision that I have made. My dad Luis Hernandez, if I've ever needed anything, he's always tried to make it happen. On a professional level, I would say my influence is LeBron James. He sees the game and takes charge of the team depending on the situation. They look up to him to make big plays.

What are your goals this season? My goal is to do all I can do to help my team make the playoffs this season and end the drought. On a personal level, I'd like to lead the district in sacks!

Who's your favorite NFL team? The San Francisco 49ers.

College team? UT.

What's your favorite play and why? My favorite play has to be a play we call Even Inside because I'm closer to the center, so I have a better reach at him.

What are your plans after graduation? To go to college and study nursing.

Major?Nursing. I'd like to become an RN.

What does it feel like to come out of the tunnel? What do you feel when you hear the fight song? It's a whole different feeling coming out with your friends and the people you're playing with and having a fun time with on the field on Friday nights. When I hear the fight song, it pumps me up to another level. It makes me feel how much I believe in my team.

Finally, give me some advice to a seventh grader playing football for the first time. Stick with it. There's going to be a lot of challenges. Stick with it and be coachable.
