The University of Texas at Tyler via their Development Liaison Kathy Glendale Gohmert visited with Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center Chief Operating Officer Alan Gonzalez M,Sc,RDCs, MBA on Tuesday, September 19.

Gonzalez, a University of Texas at Tyler alumni, was reunited with a Tennis National Championship Trophy that he helped the University win in 1989.

Gohmert explained that the University had recently found the trophy that had gone missing due to changes in facilities; it will now be put back on display at the college campus.

Gonzalez recently attended the retirement ceremony of Coach Fred Kniffen to honor him, and the fact that the trophy was misplaced had been brought up.

“Now that we found it I wanted to take the time and bring it by so Mr. Gonzalez could see it and relive those memories when he was a student athlete on our campus, winning a National Championship along with his team mates,” said Gohmert.

Gonzalez thanked Gohmert for the kind gesture and recalled that during this tournament there had been over 110 schools from across the nation who had competed under the National Association of Interscholastic Academics (NAIA).

“Something that I’m very proud of is that out of the six players that attended that tournament ,five ended up being named All Americans including myself,” said Gonzalez. “I was privileged to be on this team that won a National Championship.”
