Coach Eric Villasenor comes from a football family. His brother Rene Villasenor played football at Eagle Pass High, and his father Oki Villasenor coached at Eagle Pass High. Both are great supporters of what Coach Villasenor has done for the C.C. Winn Mavericks program.

The type of person Coach Eric Villasenor is a reflection of what his family has instilled from his early days.

"Respond with Resilience," was this week's theme for the Thundering Maverick faithful.

With the resignation of LBJ Head Coach Oki Villasenor who coached them from 2008-2016. The Wolves went 1-9 overall with a 1-6 district 29-6A record. New Head Coach Alfonso Calderon was part of the Wolves staff when Villasenor won Co-district Championship in 2014.  He takes over a loaded team with talent and will not look at it as a rebuilding year.

Coach Calderon does have an experienced quarterback in senior #10 Albert Garcia, who is a dual threat on the field. The wolves lost their season opener to San Antonio Marshall Rams 21-7 amassing a total of 200 yards of offense.  Players to look for on offense Sophomore running back #21 Manuel Rodriguez and #22 Eddie Santillan.  The receiving core of Senior's #13 Juan Gonzalez and #20 John Molina

The Wolves has two defensive stand-outs: Seniors #31 Ismael Espinoza and #44 Christopher Olguin, both had outstanding week 1 stats with 10 tackles and 12 tackles, respectively.

LBJ would like to put 2016 in their rearview mirror as they went 0-8 to start the season and 0-5 in district play before beating South San Bobcats 20-19.

Last year's game between the two teams was one-sided as C.C. Winn controlled the pace of the game having a total of 409 yards of offense in a 21-0 win.

C.C. Winn will come in confident and refocused after the season opening lost to Crystal City 20-13.  Coach Villasenor and his staff will have the Thundering Mavericks ready to stampede forward against Laredo LBJ.  "It's going to take ALL of us to do it Friday Night," said via his twitter account.  Inspiring his football players both on and off the field.

Kickoff will be in Laredo SAC Friday night September 8 at 7:30 pm.
