Earlier in the year, they received a visit from Nevil Shed, an NCAA Hall of Famer who played professionally with none other than the Boston Celtics. Shed was on Coach Don Haskin's 1st ever all-black NCAA National Championship Team in 1958 at Texas Western University which later became UTEP. That 28-win season and their improbable run through the bracket of the NCAA Tournament where they knocked off perennial powerhouse Kansas in double overtime before defeating Utah and then none other than Adolph Rupp's Kentucky Wildcats 72-65 in what inspired a Hollywood film, Glory Road.
Shed was on hand in October at a fund raiser dinner and he related the importance of academics, discipline, listening to your parents and the importance of teamwork and commitment to becoming a better basketball player, but most importantly a better person.
The Lady Mavericks also had the honor of playing a game at the world-famous AT&T Center, the home of the San Antonio Spurs and Silver Stars in November.
