Lady Eagles outlasted Crystal City Lady Javelinas

The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles traveled to the spinach capital, Crystal City, Texas on Tuesday night and took on the Lady

Javelinas in a non-district game.  The Lady Eagles wasted no time in the first game getting out to a 7-4 lead, before Coach Criselda Mata Tapia asked for a time-out to stop the Lady Eagles outset.
Finally breaking serve Crystal City tied the game at seven a piece midway through the firstgame.  Eagle Pass then took a commanding 17-8 lead behind a great service game from junior outside hitter Alianna Torres who had 9 points from the line.  Crystal City was unable to get anything going as they dropped the first game 25-17.
The Lady Javelinas took game two 20-25 behind Gabriela Tapia and outstanding outside hitter Linda Mata as Crystal City even up the match at one a piece. Early in game two the Lady Eagles lost one of their setter's junior Bianca Camarillo to a hand injury. "After losing Camarillo, I just told the girls to stick together and keep playing, " said Coach Iza Mancha Jimenez.
Game 3 went back and forth as either team was unable to take control, long rallies and great defensive plays by both teams had the crowd on their feet cheering.  The teams tied up the score on three different occasions at 9-9, 10-10, and then late in the game 14-14.  The Lady Eagles took a 18-15 lead as Crystal City took a time-out.  Senior middle block Ashley Barrientos who controlled as much of the net as she could having 2 blocks and 5 kills in the match to help the Lady Eagles finish the game 25-18 to take game 3.
The Lady Javelinas played tough as they had the home crowd behind them and took a 10-7 lead in game 4, when Coach Mancha Jimenez called time-out. "I called time-out to make sure I got their attention and to keep them composed," commented Coach Mancha Jimenez.
After the time-out the Lady Eagles rallied back to within one point 10-11 midway through the fourth game as Crystal City asked for a time-out.  The Lady Javelinas then came out of the time-out behind Mata and took a four point lead 15-11, after a couple of big plays defensively the Lady Eagles came back to tie it at 18-18.  On defense Nataly Martinez played exceptional well digging up some kills with a game high 27 digs.  Teammate Paola Rodriguez helped as she had a game high 19 points from the service line. 
Junior outside hitter Sophie Rodriguez (8 kills,3 blocks) came up with timely kills to propel the Lady Eagles to victory 25-22.  When asked after the game about player of the match she replied,"I have to say our girls played great as a team and the coaching staff couldn't have asked for anything more from them, we played and won as a team collectively."
With the win Lady Eagles improve their record to 10-5 overall.  Eagle Pass will next travel September 6 to Pearsall, Texas @ 6:30 with Freshman and JV playing at 5:00 pm before starting district play on Friday September 8 @ EP SAC vs. Laredo Alexander.
