“Carroll is a very athletic ball club but I think we match up well based on what we’ve seen on video. We’ve just got to not forget how we got here, keep doing the little things right and focusing on what’s important,” said Villaseñor. “We’re a full squad, we’re healthy, we’re been very careful in how we structure our workouts, we’ve got a night practice tonight, the kids are really looking forward to that, and it’s just a special time. It’s a great time to be a Maverick.”
Villaseñor said there has been widespread support for the team.
“[We’ve] had a whole lot of support from everybody, from our CC Winn campus, to Memorial Jr. High, to our south side elementary schools, everybody’s been on board, Everybody is excited and it’s well deserved,” said Villaseñor. “It’s been a long time coming and I’m just excited for Maverick nation and our south side community.”
The game will be televised by KIRS, the Corpus Christi Fox affiliate.
If they win, the next step for the Mavericks would be the area championship against the winner of Laredo Nixon and Brownsville Lopez in a game that would be held in Eagle Pass.
