C.C. Winn went up early in the first quarter at the 6 minute mark when QB Micheal Paniagua found his receiver Alfonso Cardona for a 47 yard touchdown. Christian Rodriguez tacked on an extra point putting them on top 7-0.
After the Indians were held to a field goal making the score 7-3, the Mavericks made a key mistake in losing the ball to Harlandale on their offensive drive and the Indians wasted no time in taking advantage. Harlandale scored on a running touchdown after the turnover putting them on top 10-7 after the extra point.
The Mavs then went to Carlos Tijerina on offense, as they quickly mounted another scoring drive that finished off with a bulldozing Tijerina capping off the drive with a TD of his own, making the score 13-10 at halftime.
Tijerina would once again find pay dirt with 9 minutes in the fourth quarter putting the Mavs up 20-10. Harlandale answered the Mavs with a scoring drive of their own soon after, narrowing the lead to 20-17.
With the game in it’s closing minutes the Mavs were able to secure the lead with a touchdown from back-up QB Michael Paniagua who ran in the final Mav touchdown of the ball game, putting them up 27-17.

The Mavs were able to breathe a sigh of relief after a failed onsides kick, holding off the Indians and securing the top spot in District 29-5A. The team came up with some timely defensive stops throughout the game and were able to hold off a tough Harlandale squad. Winn improves to a 7-1 overall record.
In his fourth year as head of the football program, Head Coach Eric Villaseñor realizes the importance of this win not only for his players but also for the entire school. “This was a program win, we’ve punched our ticket to the playoffs and made history here at C.C. Winn High School and I know that our program, our kids, our coaches and our administration will never forget it”.
“These kids have bought into what we’re doing, how we’re doing it and especially why we’re doing it, and they’re reaping the benefits right now.”
Their next game will be in Floresville against the Tigers on October 28 at 7:30 p.m.
“Floresville will be another big game for us, they are on an emotional high from a win against Uvalde, 56-53. They are at home so we are expecting their best shot on Friday” stated Villaseñor.
Starting QB Julio Ruiz is expected to be ready for the game but Coach Villaseñor is confident in his back-up Michael Paniagua who had an outstanding game against Harlandale on Friday.
The Mavs will then see Uvalde in a Homecoming game match-up on November 3rd.
