The CC Winn Mavericks and the LBJ Wolfpack engaged in a defensive battle that ended up in a 6-3 victory for the visitors from Laredo after four quarters of hard-hitting football.

Sophomore sensation Deion Alonso broke off a thirty plus yard run to set up a 28 yard field goal which came off the foot of Pedro Elizondo as the Mavericks looked efficient on their third drive of the ball game.  The offensive line seemed to be holding their own and imposing their will on the Wolfpack defensive front four, but the offense was only able to get three points out of a stingy Wolfpack defense.

The Wolves mounted a scoring drive in the second quarter which ended up in a fifteen yard touchdown run up the middle by LBJ quarterback Eddie Contreras.  The extra point was no good and the race was on to try to see who the next team would be to widen the proverbial margin, but no one would step up until the fourth quarter when Maverick quarterback Ricky Flores attempted to mount a comeback as Carlos Cerezo almost came down with three Flores passes late in the game with less than three minutes remaining in the game one of which was caught for a big first down putting the Mavericks deep in Wolve territory down by three.

Flores showed why he is considered one of the biggest passing threats in the district, spreading the rock around the yard like a true pocket passer, but as he attempted to connect with his receivers downfield, Peter Juve's LBJ secondary did their job as Flores was not able to find a receiver and he rolled out and tried to throw it away to live another play, but officials called an intentional grounding penalty on the Mavs which took them back to their own 47 and the next pass fell incomplete sealing the 6-3 win for Laredo.

The Del Rio Rams came from behind to beat the Laredo United Longhorns 36-26 which may still hold a ray of hope for the Eagle Pass Eagles to win a Co-Championship with a head-to-head victory against the Rams on Friday.  The Mavericks travel to Laredo to face-off with the Longhorns next week.
