The Eagle Pass Eagles hosted a solid Del Rio Rams football squad on Friday at Foster Veterans Memorial Stadium on Homecoming Night for the Eagles where Storm Rodriguez and Alexia Saucedo were crowned King and Queen after a much ballyhooed election process.
The Rams struck first, but not towards the end of the second quarter on a Steven Salinas to Gaston Flores connection for 29 yards which was a testament to the Eagle Defense who completely held their own for the better part of the first half, holding the Rams to late scores in the first half including a red zone stand where they held the Rams to a 20 yard field goal by Tyler Hopkins to go into the locker rooms at 10-0 Del Rio.
The Eagles, after recovering the on-sides kick by the Rams, threw an interception which put the Rams the ball in Eagle territory.
This led to a 39 yard strike from Salinas to Flores once again which ended in the Ram receiver diving into the south end zone for the score 17-0 Rams after the PAT.
Backup QB Walt Ashley scored on a keeper after a long drive to put the Rams up 24-0.
The Eagles had a short field after recovering a Ram fumble on their 12 which led to a four yard Mark Venegas touchdown in the fourth quarter as well as a two point conversion. Venegas reached a major milestone in his high school football career by rushing for over 1,000 yards this season.
