Southside Boys, Uvalde Girls Crowned 29-AAAAA Champions

The Southside Cardinals had an impressive team performance at the 2015 District 29-AAAAA Cross Country Meet held on Thursday, October 15th at the Eagle Pass Municipal Golf Course.

Senior Israel Orihuela set a blistering 5:12 pace to outlast the competition by over thirty seconds with a 15:19.4 with Martin's Juan Vasquez coming in second 15:52.5.  

"The course is the same as last year, it's pretty fast, I liked it.  Coming up the hills was pretty tough, good course though."

When asked about his training regimen and how he prepared for this championship, Orihuela had the following to say, "Speed workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays and then long runs on Mondays and Wednesdays.  I'd like to thank my coach Juan Castañon and Coach Jimmy Lopez."

Yosio Limon of the CC Winn Mavericks who came in right behind the top finisher for the Mavs Miguel Rendon who posted a 16:38.4 had the following to say right after the race, "I tried my max, it's district I had to go all out. Mondays are our hard workouts Wednesdays it's all about tempo, I really would like to thank my Coach Apolinar Garza for all this.  He got me where I am right now and there's nothing better." Yosio's proud parents were also on hand to show their support on this cool morning, "We are so full of emotion right now and very proud of our boy."

Laredo Martin placed second as a team and Cigarroa of Laredo will be the third place team advancing to the 2015 Region IV Meet.

Mabel Fowler (18:29.9) of the Uvalde Coyotes was the first to cross the finish line ahead of teammate Gabby Gonzalez.  Martin's Abril Escamilla placed 3rd and fellow Martin Tigerette Mariana Cano came in 4th.

CC Winn's Joann Jimenez has qualified for her second consecutive berth in the Region IV Meet which will be held on Monday, October 26th in Corpus Christi.
