The Eagle Pass Eagles and Lady Eagles have both qualified to advance to the Region IV Cross Country Meet in Corpus Christi which will be held on October 26th.
The Eagles comprised of Miguel Huitron (6th place 15:34), Nathan Kowalski who came in one second behind Huitron, Sergio Hernandez, Arturo Valdez, Homar Perez and Ryan Rodriguez came in second behind a very strong team from United South who scored 48 points to Eagle Pass' 61. Del Rio placed third with 68.
"We've been training for this race for a long time," said Kowalski who gave us a little insight as to how they prepared for this challenge, "A lot of mileage and workouts, a lot of workouts working on speed."
Jezabelle Rodriguez and her teammates did everything they could to do the same, actually tying for second to also advance to the Region IV Meet next week.
Rodriguez came in second overall with an incredible 18:14, "Our focus was to bring back the team title of District Champions and my goal is to win individually and break the course record," she said just before sprinting to action on a cool Saturday morning at the Eagle Pass Municipal Golf Course who also let us in on how she and her teammates prepared for this meet, "A lot of hydration, lots of hours of sleep, proper nutrition, training and just dedication."
Monica Rivera placed fourth overall, Ruby Briones, Suzette Salinas, Sarah Monsivais, Shanya Luna and Jeannelle Fernandez round off the Lady Eagles.
