First up for the Mavericks is starting Wide Receiver Ruben Esquivel.
First of all Ruben, congratulations on your amazing performance against Southside. You guys showed how far the program has come in only one year, trust the process Right? I've got a battery of questions for you, are you ready?
Yes, Sir.
I'll begin by asking who your influences are?
My biggest influence would have to be my Dad. He supports me and my family. In the pros I think Dez Bryant would be my biggest influence because of the way he goes all out on every play.
What are your goals this season?
My goals are to get first team All-District and help my team get into the State Playoffs.
Who's your favorite NFL team?
The Dallas Cowboys.
College team?
The Oregon Ducks.
What's your favorite play?
My favorite play is Boss Hitch and Go because I can make a move and go deep to score a TD.
Give me your career highlight.
I would have to say this game against the Cardinals where all my teammates contributed, our QB spread the love around and hit all his receivers. I made a big catch on the sideline to get us a first down, but I hope to have my career highlight comes later this season in a game that will help us win district.
What are your plans after Graduation?
My plans after I graduate are to go to college and study hard. No pain, no gain.
Major?
Mechanical Engineering.
Give me some advice to give to a seventh grader starting football.
My advice to a seventh grader would be to keep on working hard and don't quit on yourself. "Strive for greatness."
Finally, tell our readers what it feels like to come out of the tunnel.
Coming out of the tunnel is the most exciting thing you can experience because you get a chance to see all the people in the stands that are watching you play. We truly have a lot of fans that come to every game and we really appreciate them. We're going to give them a season to remember!
Next up is Eagle quarterback Alan Morales.
Congratulations on a great game against Southwest, Alan. You had a great touchdown run and gave the Dragons all they could handle. You guys played on into the night until almost midnight! Proud of you. I've got some questions for you are you ready?
Yes, Sir.
Who are your influences?
My coaches, my family and most importantly, my brother Aaron. He's taught me to keep trying to improve my game even though he was injured, he always told me that you keep trying to improve and has given me a reason to keep going. In the pros it has to be Odell Beckham, Jr. I know he's a wide receiver, but I like his attitude. Also Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks.
What are your goals this season?
To start district on a positive note against United South and to make the playoffs.
Who's your favorite NFL team?
The Dallas Cowboys.
College?
Ohio State.
What's your favorite play and why?
14 GT because I can make yards and it gives me a chance to score and put my team in a better situation.
What is your career highlight?
It would have to be the last play in the CC Winn game. I barely got that ball off at the last second with defenders behind me and in my face. I took a pretty big hit and didn't even see if I had completed it. When I heard the roar of the crowd, I knew we had won. It was time for me to do something big and I did just that.
What are your plans after graduation?
To get accepted at Texas A&M.
Major?
Engineering.
What advice would you give a seventh grader playing football for the first time?
Don't get discouraged. If you can't find yourself, always keep working until you do.
Finally, tell our readers what it feels like to come out of the tunnel.
It is a very different look. It's very exciting. I can't explain it. It's just a really awesome feeling.
