The Eagle Pass Eagles descended upon Cozel Foster Veterans Memorial Stadium to tangle with former District 29-AAAAA foes the Laredo Nixon Mustangs who proceeded to take advantage of six costly EP turnovers to wrangle a 41-21 victory away from the home team.

The Eagles looked good on several occasions as QB Alan Morales connected with WR Ricky Reyes on a long gain that set up a touchdown for #13 two plays later on another well placed ball by Morales which showed off his play-action prowess leaving an otherwise stingy and aggressive Nixon defense wondering what was coming as Morales laid the ball gently into a streaking Reyes who cradled it in the end zone for the touchdown late in the second quarter.

If one was not looking at the scoreboard early, the player that was mostly standing out in this game was none other than returning starter Mark Venegas who had two exceptional kickoff returns, one of 35 and the other of 45 yards which set up Eagle offensive possessions when they needed it the most. On the first Mustang possession Darwin Lechler and the Eagle D did what they could to keep the green and gold out of the end zone and thwarted a drive ending field goal attempt by junior kicker Sergio Aguirre to keep Nixon off the scoreboard, but an early turnover gave Laredo a scoring opportunity they did not waste to go up 7-0.

Venegas brought the ball back to the 35 to start the Eagle possession and after a run by Venegas and a short pass to scat back DeeAndre Torres, EP was forced to punt, but a bad snap gave the 'Stangs the ball deep in Eagle territory which resulted in their second score.

Morales was hit by Nixon's Chris Casas on the next possession after looking to pass to Torres, then on a subsequent play, he was called for an illegal forward pass and we were forced to punt, on this punt however, punter Mando Lopez had good hang time confusing the Mustang returners causing a fumble that was recovered by the Eagles which led to the first EP TD when Venegas dove into the end zone from the two yard line.  14-7 Nixon.

After two questionable interference calls, Coach Tom Gonzalez came out to inquire what the problem was with so much contact being called in the game to no avail and the Mustangs went on to score yet again and widen the lead to 21-7.

Morales used his legs to acquire a couple of first downs on the ensuing possessions as he eventually went in to score and compounded with the picture perfect play-action TD pass to Reyes, it put 21 points on the board for Eagle Pass, but it was a little too little, a little to late and the final score after four was Nixon 41, Eagle Pass 21.
