Cat De La Cruz, Eagle Pass High School's ace pitcher was thinking of the post season as she assisted in affixing the decorations on the table at the Lecture Room while Coach Coca Ruiz and her parents awaited the start of festivities honoring her on this very significant day as she inked her National Letter of Intent to attend texas A&M international University next semester.

Both her coach and very gracious emcee Melissa Gratkowski, sportin' her very stylish dry-fit 3/4 sleeve Eagle shirt given to her by Principal Vale Moreno, agree that sometimes, like most major league pitchers such as the great Bob Gibson, cannot really be approached on game days as their competitive nature may seem repulsive to most people as she gripped the softball that decorated the table she would sign on.

"Cat is a three year letterman who has received numerous accolades confirming her success on the field," Said Gratkowski, the Public Information Officer for the EPISD, "She'a also an accomplished student and is also an amazing individual."

De La Cruz has received unanimous All-District distinctions and was selected the Max Preps National Fast Pitch Coaches Association Player of the Week in March of 2014.

"She's liked by many, but feared by a lot," said Coach Ruiz, "She's a captain.  At times she's not the most likable, but she can carry a team on her shoulders.  What better person to have on the mound than Cat who is a threat to her opponents," added Ruiz who mentioned the fact that she is atop the list of the most effective hurlers in the State of Texas with a 0.3 ERA (Earned Run Average), "She is the type of player who will do anything to put her teammates in the position to win."

Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Tom Gonzalez also came up to wish Cat the best saying that he has been impressed by her exploits and wishes her nothing but the best in her future endeavors and Assistant Principal John Byrne eloquently and effectively commended her and her parents on what he considers to be an incredible achievement, "I played college athletics and to get there, to have the opportunity to play at the next level is a big accomplishment.

There are 1,096 districts in the State of Texas and roughly 8,000 high schools and only 1% of all high school athletes get to play at the next level, so it is an amazing accomplishment, young lady.

You should be proud of yourself and I know your parents, teammates and coaches are proud.  Congratulations again on behalf of Mr. Moreno the campus principal."
