The Maverick side has been a formidable one with both experienced players and a wealth of young talent that has shown an aggressive mentality on both the offensive and defensive sides of the pitch highlighted by senior forwards Samule Olguin, Jose Chavez, and Pedro Velasquez along with junior strikers Raudel Gomez, Juan Garcia and Kevin Ortiz as well as freshman Cristian Acevedo. Senior midfielders Dante Valdes, Aron Paredes and Edward Lira along with lower classmen Fernando Castillo, Nestor Villarreal, Javier Mendez and Israel Perales work hard to obtain control of the ball to push action forward to alleviate the senior backline of Luis Carmona and juniors Vicente De Leon, Michael Urena, Roberto Macias and Carlos Patiño.
Goalie Angel Salas has been a breath of fresh air and had an amazing game in the head to head matchup of first place teams between Winn and Cigarroa in the frigid cold and 40 MPH winds on March 4th.
The Mavericks will now head into the playoffs for the fist time in school history and will face district 30-5A opponent the Calallen Wildcats in Somerset, TX. The first round matchup will take place at Bulldog Stadium tonight at 6:00 PM.
