Cozel Foster Veterans Memorial Stadium where Cristian Rodriguez' Silver & Black Attack CC Winn Mavericks hosted the district leading Cigarroa Toros on Wednesday night. The game was will be a decisive part of determining the 29-5A district title.

The 2015 CC Winn Mavericks made history on Wednesday night with a very hard fought 4-2 victory over a very talented Laredo Cigarroa side and against treacherous weather conditions to give the staff, parents, fans and student body of CC Winn High School a very symbolic accomplishment in the wake of the passing of the man whose school bears his name.

Goalie Alexis Perez was absolutely spectacular in the first half with the wind in his face batting away what seemed to be sure goals by the Toro strikers time and time again with at least four major shots on goal to keep Cigarroa within striking distance.

The game began just as a cold front blew in and completely changed the conditions of the game as strong winds and rain swept in hard and fast.

The sudden change caught the players off guard and the Mavericks gave up a quick goal as they adjusted to the way the strong winds were affecting the movement of the ball.

The game pressed on and the Mavericks continued to struggle with the Toros and the conditions and gave up another goal just before halftime

falling behind 2-0.

The Mavs were given life as Carlos Patino was able to score a goal off a bounce from the Toro

goalie.

The half ended 1-2 Toros. The second half had the strong winds blowing in the Mavericks favor and it made a difference.

The Mavericks tied the game off a great play and shot from Samuel Olguin. The next two goals were scored by Julio Ballones as more space opened up for the Mavericks and they started to combine to pass and control the game.

The game ended in a big 4-2 win, one of the biggest ever for the Maverick Soccer Program who will take their show on the road for the first time ever in the State AAAAA Playoffs.
