The Eagle Pass Eagles were in San Antonio over the weekend to take part in the Southwest Invitational. Coach Neto Reyes' squad came in third in the tourna- ment winning three games and dropping a close one against the host team the Southwest
Dragons in the semi final.
The Eagles opened up with the Carrizo Springs Wildcats and came away with a 73-53 win paced by Ralph Olivares' 24 points, five boards, five assists and four steals. Luis Ramos barely missed a double-double with ten points and nine assists, Ricky Flores had 11 and Jeremy De Jesus had nine and both were three for three from three point range.
Next up were the Southside Cardinals and the Eagles went toe-to-toe with Southside in a close game all the way going into the locker room down 34-32. A late push in the fourth quarter gave the Eagles an 82-72 win.
Miguel Sanchez had 22 points for the Eagles, Cesar Hernandez scored 14 with five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Ralph Olivares scored 11 as did Luis Ramos and Luis Padilla had 10. In the semi, Eagle Pass and Southwest duked it out for four periods after the Dragons bolted out to a 21-11 lead, but the Eagles chipped their way back into the game with solid offense and defense and outscored Southwest 21-16 in the pivotal fourth quarter, but came up short 79-72. Olivares led the Eagles with 16 points, Sanchez had 15, Hernandez 12 and Luis Ramos had eight. The Eagles defeated the Uvalde Cototes 69-53 in the third place game paced by All-Tournament player Cesar Hernandez' 24 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals.
