The Eagle Pass Eagles were a stop away from moving on to the Texas State High School Playoffs on Friday against the Del Rio Rams.  The amazing thing about the situation was the fact that the Eagle defense got that stop at a most opportune time I might add, with less than three minutes remaining on the clock, but a holding call gave the Del Rio Rams, who trailed the Eagles at the time 14-7 new life.  The Eagles held the Rams to no yards on four incomplete passes from the ten yard line and quarterback Will Ashley basically was throwing the ball away as all his receivers were covered by the Eagle D.

The Rams would eventually punch it in tying the game at 14 with less than two minutes remaining.

Most would think that in a situation such as this that would be all for your Eagle Pass Eagles.  Most but Ty Chisum and the Eagle Offense who put together an amazing 90 yard drive as the waning moments of the game ticked slowly by.

The Eagles scored on a 30 yard run by Chisum when he was looking to throw rolling to his right then he reversed his field, beat the Del Rio defensive end and it was off to the races for Chisum for the win, but a late flag away from the play took the points off the board nullifying the touchdown.

On the very next down, Chisum drops back to pass looking for Memo Hernandez in the corner of the endzone, who had scored earlier, and after he lets the ball loose, another flag comes on the final offensive play of the drive and of the game for Eagle Pass.  When the ball falls incomplete, the referee picks up the flag saying there is no foul on the play.

Then on the ensuing try by Gonzalo Martinez to win the game, the Del Rio defense were all over Martinez literally tackling him on the attempt, yet no foul was called for roughing the kicker.

After the Eagles lost the flip going into overtime, Chisum went back to work finding a streaking DeeAndre Torres, who had scored earlier in the game, but a Ram defender stripped the ball ending the Eagle possession.

Kicker Tyler Hopkins kicked a 27 yard field goal sending the Rams to the postseason 17-14.

Eagle standout wide receiver and former Player of the Week Joseph Barrientos was hurt on the first play from scrimmage which was a key factor in the outcome of this game.
