Valentin Limon continues to show the district that he is a force to be reckoned with placing a very strong fourth place in District 29-AAAAA turning in a 17:24.
The boys team was seven points shy of advancing as a team and placed fourth overall behind Martin and Southside who tied for the district title and it came down to each team's sixth runner to break it. Southside placed second and Laredo Cigarroa came in third. "Valentin has been our top runner all season long," said Coach AT Garza, "His times have been coming down every week and in my opinion he has a really good chance to go to state this year which is his senior year."
Winn's Bertha Villarreal placed eighth and will also qualify for the Region IV Meet.
"She was 17th last year in district and she worked hard and worked her way up to this," added Coach Garza, "She made up her mind that she was going to improve and she did just that."
A third Maverick runner, Joann Jimenez will also be running in the Regional Meet as the 10th and final individual qualifier.
"Joann was a pleasant surprise to come in the Top 10," concluded the Mav running mentor, "She told the team she was going to make regionals and by golly she did."
