The Eagle Pass Eagles allowed an early punt return for a touchdown by Eric Corona, which in itself could have been overcome by some of the high-octane, devil-may-care offense the Eagles Offense, but in the first half, it didn't happen as the Laredo United Longhorns extended their lead in District 29-AAAAAA standings boring four more TD's before halftime.
The Longhorns combined for 325 total yards of offense in the first half to Eagle Pass' 140+. The Eagles had eight first downs, but no points to show for it. What they did have however, were the same culprits which kept them from being closer to defeating the LBJ Wolves last week, penalties. The Eagles were penalized five times for eighty yards.
Ignacio Telles found speedy Jordan Herrera several times in the first half to give the 'Horns a 35-0 halftime lead, then in the second half, the Eagles began to showcase some of their younger talent in this, one of the toughest foes in this newly aligned district such as Ricky Medina, DeeAndre Torres and even getting RJ Valdez some touches on the offensive side of the ball.
Ty Chisum began the second half out of the classic double twins "I" formation offense handing off to DeShawn Franklin for a couple of yards followed by good gains by Medina and a couple of productive reverses to Torres. Franklin broke a tackle and got an EP first down to the 36. After a two yard gainer from Valdez, Chisum threw incomplete to Joseph Barrientos on second down, then on third down, it was a quick surgeon-like strike to Barrientos on the 62 yard touchdown pass which after the Gonzalo Martinez PAT made the score 35-7.
It was all downhill for the Longhorns from here as they scored three more times and even pinned our boys back with a favorable punt to the one yard line where they sacked Chisum trying to get out of the endzone for a safety.
58- was your final as the Eagles prepare to take on the Alexander Bulldogs here on Thursday.
