The CC Winn Mavericks mounted a 93 yard drive at the end of their game against the Medina Valley Panthers down 14-7 in the second half with less than two minutes to go in the game as Juan Elizondo and the Mavs showed the never-say-die attitude that Eric Villaseñor and his staff have instilled in them since Day 1 as he orchestrated a masterful drive using passes to the sidelines to Julio Ruiz, Brandon Sanchez and Ramiro Valdez to keep valuable seconds on the clock as the Panthers milked the clock on every offensive possession with the lead but the Mav defense made stop after stop in the second half of play to give their offense a chance to make a comeback.

The Panthers drew first blood on their first offensive possession with a two yard run by QB Bradley Griggs, then RB Christian Williams scored with 2:07 remaining in the half to put Medina Valley up 14-0 at the half.

When the Mavericks came out of the tunnel in the second half, they did so with a fire and determination that was evident on the very first play of the half as Villaseñor looked on intently telling his coaches that the first called play was there as Elizondo took the first snap 68 yards to the Panther three yard line and three plays later he took it in himself with 8:14 left.  The PAT by Dante Valdez made the score 14-7 and it was a game.

Ryan Pike, Rene Rodriguez, Chris Aranda, David Garza, Abel Flores and the Mav D absolutely dominated the second half holding the Panthers to one legitimate first down and another on a penalty giving Winn a chance to mount a comeback which they were able to have as they used their last two timeouts to preserve the precious remaining seconds left on the clock to do so, but a 40 yard punt which put the ball at the Maverick five made this improbable if not worse, but a big 27 yard gainer on a swing pass to scatback Deion Alonso kept the drive alive for the fireworks to come as Heriberto Roiz and the Mav offense put together a killer two-minute drill which came up just two yards short with a picture perfect pass to Brandon Sanchez on a post pattern just in front of the goal line ended as Sanchez was downed immediately after securing the catch.  A play that made Big Game Sports on San Antonio TV and a beautiful pitch and catch that deserves all the coverage.  Medina Valley 14, Eagle Pass Winn 7 was your final.

So close yet so far for the game-tying score, but the Mavericks have absolutely nothing to hang there heads about especially after this valiant effort.

Conrad Perez of Eagle Pass Sports Central informed The News Gram of the fact that Elizondo finished the game with 107 yards rushing in the loss.
