It's football season once again and with it comes the News Gram's weekly feature Players of the Week.
This week we have two linebackers for our home squads, the Eagles' RJ Valdez and the Mavs' Ryan Pike.
First up is CC Winn Maverick Linebacker #44 Ryan Pike. First of all, congratulations on your coach's nomination, Ryan. I'll begin by asking:
What are your goals this season?
My goals for this season are to help my team win games to the best of my ability and for our team to make it to the playoffs because this is a team game and I'm a team player.
Who's your favorite NFL team?
The Houston Texans.
College team?
LSU!!
What's your favorite play and why? (Give me a good long one)
My favorite defensive play would be Maverick Pinch because it allows me to roam the field and make a tackle almost anywhere.
What are your plans after Graduation?
When I graduate from college, I would like to do so with a degree in Medical Science.
Finally, give me some advice to a seventh grader playing football for the first time.
Don't be afraid of taking control of the team and lead on and off the field.
Next up is Eagle Pass Eagle Linebacker #15 RJ Valdez. First of all, congratulations on your coach's nomination, RJ. I'll begin by asking:
What are your goals this season?
First, win district then to go farther than the first round of the playoffs and to be remembered as one of the greatest teams of all time.
Who's your favorite NFL team?
The Dallas Cowboys.
College team?
The Texas Longhorns.
What's your favorite play and why? (Give me a good long one)
D-Bama Wide Cheat because I split the A gap, I blitz and I sack the quarterback every time! I sacked Killeen's QB this week and had seven tackles.
What are your plans after Graduation?
To attend UTSA and pursue a Business Major. Hopefully I can open up my own business one day. I'm in GeoForce and I'd like to minor in Geology so I can work for oil companies on the business side and work for them one day.
Finally, give me some advice to a seventh grader playing football for the first time.
Give it your all. Play with heart and don't let any one tell you you're too small or you can't do something. Never take 'No' for an answer. Follow Christ and give Him the Glory!
